The Kitchen

Somewhat frustrated at the poor design of our kitchen that does not utilize the big space available, I took it upon myself to set up a new one on the Ikea Home Planner. And although our house is up for sale (6 months and still no calls!) and putting money into it with the market the way it is can't be a good idea...it never hurts to dream! So here is our actual kitchen (notice the lack of cabinets on the left wall especially) and here is the Ikea kitchen. On the new left wall, the cabinets above the little windows are not "normal". Instead they are horizontal cabinets that open up instead of out. That way, there is more head room at the counter space and we would be able to leave the windows in tact and save money not having to take the windows out. See the inspiration photo for this one too! You also might notice I left out the cupboards on the wall on either side of the sink. Instead I wanted to have open shelving (see the inspiration photo) to make the space a little more modern and open up the counter area a little more. Ikea didn't have that available so I drew them in on Paint. Oh and with the Ikea calculator, the cost for everything including countertops (but not appliances) is around $4500. Not bad huh? But no way can we put $4500 into a kitchen we want to sell and will undoubtedly not get any return on. But still cool! So enjoy...
